In line with the epistemological propositions of planetary urbanisation, I follow Denis Cosgrove and Theodor Adorno in considering the spectacle of the rural landscape as a thoroughly modern phenomenon and as an artefact of second nature; one which only exists as an imagination to a modern social subject position that is removed from agrarian social life. Around the time of starting my masters in Urban Studies two years ago, I became increasingly interested in the intellectual history of urban studies itself, and in competing urban epistemologies with different intellectual genealogies.
